Then the mission and his life
Became intertwined

He fought for rights
He fought for peace
He fought for justice
For this people

Non-violence was his creed
And his meetings were made
To stir the hearts and the minds
Of the people

To want freedom
To want homerule

When violence broke out
He protested in his
Non-violent way

Fasting made the people listen
Made the people stop

When freedom was given
And the religions moved their ways
More fighting broke out

And again he fasted
And again they stopped

Just when peace seemed to be coming
For the religions

Tragedy happened
And this man was taken before his time

Before his mission was complete

He and the mission are still intertwined today
And he is still around
